Set to inspire a new generation

Datateam Business Media is both the organiser of The HVAC & Refrigeration Show and the official operating partner for SkillFRIDGE.

SkillFRIDGE’s role is to:

  • Work in partnership with industry sponsors, colleges and equipment suppliers
  • Oversee the strategic development and implementation of a framework of WorldSkills UK competitions that support regional activities, progressions to the National Finals at The Skills Show NEC and the series launch at The HVAC & Refrigeration Show
  • The HVAC & Refrigeration Show is the perfect place for a skills competition of this kind

The national SkillFRIDGE competition is returning to The HVAC & Refrigeration Show for a second year.

Six apprentices from across UK colleges and training providers competed at the show to achieve gold medal position.

The 12 hour competition showcased the skills and knowledge required to work in the HVACR industry and included electrical wiring, fault finding, pipe work fabrication, joining of materials, commissioning, refrigerant charging efficient set up and recovery of refrigerant. Apart from vocational skills, the judges looked for ability to design, plan and effectively solve problems encountered in the test projects.

Mark Forsyth Worldskills UK training manager and SkillFRIDGE lead judge said: “By participating in skill competitions, the UK is able to share best practice on vocational teaching, and raise standards and expertise in further education, skills and apprenticeships on a national scale.”

More information will be available soon, however if you are
interested in applying for the next SkillFRIDGE competition, please go to your training provider.
